SAP Activate Methodology

What is SAP Activate?

The SAP Activate Framework is a harmonized implementation approach for cloud, on-premise, and hybrid implementations in the SAP environment and can be used in a wide variety of SAP solutions, including SAP S/4HANA. The simplified, modular approach supports increased co-innovation and collaboration, providing comprehensive support for initial implementation and continuous business innovation.

For Implementation, SAP S/4 HANA uses methodology called #SAP "#ACTIVATE". The goal is to leverage SAP best Practices embedded in Preconfigured business process, which are provided out of the box and were designed to allow your company to perform most of its own core business functions.

The phases in SAP Activate are as follows:

  • DISCOVER PHASE

In this phase, company will select their implementation partners, define scope, choose the desired version, set up the necessary infrastructure, etc. all in preparation of project kick-off.

  • PREPARE PHASE

In this phase, we will gather initial requirements and select the applicable business process from the SAP Best Practices list. At this time, an implementation partner may prepare your system for the use in creating demos and running prototyping sessions, which will take place in the next phase.

  • EXPLORE PHASE

During this phase, your implementation partners will demonstrate preconfigured SAP business processes and document every concern raised by the client. This information will go through review sessions, resulting in a list of requirements. The outcome of this phase is a prioritized and approved list of requirements with estimates and the onboarding of all additional resources needed to realize these requirements.

The work of putting together this list of requirements is referred to as FIT - GAP ANALYSIS. "FIT" requirements are addressed by out of the box, preconfigured functionality. Value can be created by documenting these requirements in detail since these requirements will resurface several times during the project.

  • REALIZE PHASE

At this point, SAP consultants take the requirements list, assign requirements to the team, undertake the necessary configuration and development, and the test business functions individually.  You'll then perform none or more cycles of integration tests to ensure all processes work with each other and with the data converted from legacy systems.

The Outcome of this phase is a user acceptance test. At this time, you should have business approval that all processes are supported/ work as needed and that the data is accurate/complete.

  • DEPLOY PHASE
The deploy phase includes GO - LIVE preparation, training, GO - LIVE itself, hyper care support, and the transition to the ongoing support team.

  • RUN PHASE

In this phase, company running SAP S/4 HANA is assisted by the ongoing support team.
